Access to Equipment and Facilities

Shop Facilities

The Department of Mechanical Engineering has support facilities for producing custom mechanical parts, assemblies, electronic circuits and instrumentation for research and teaching. Industrial partners have access to this support through joint research initiatives with researchers in the department.

The facilities are accessible to faculty and students to perform their own work if they so choose yet they have the option to submit jobs to the professional specialists in machining, fabrication, instrumentation and electronics who staff the facilities. The mechanical shop contains a wide variety of equipment and tools for cutting, forming and joining materials and accepts jobs to produce parts according to specifications (drawings) provided by the submitter.

The electronics shop contains a wide variety of instruments and tools for building custom circuits, data acquisition systems and instruments and offers both circuit design and assembly services.

In addition to these shared facilities, the individual research labs have specialized capabilities and equipment supporting the research areas.
