The overall theme of the activities of this laboratory centers on the development of new processes and process control schemes. These range for a variety of processes and from mechanical design of the proposed system, to prove of concept, associated mathematical analysis and the development of algorithms. A number of prototypes have been developed including a research friction welding machine that has been used for friction welding of incompatible and ceramic materials.
