The thermal hydraulic laboratory has three two-phase flow test facilities as well as one SCWO facility as discussed below. Each facility is fully equipped with modern, accurate measurement and control instrumentation, including high speed data acquisition hardware/software. Labtech Notebook software is used throughout. The laboratory also contains a computer room/SUN SparcStation linked to the departmental computers. Flow visualization studies are performed using both a High Cam (10,000 frames per second) as well as a high speed CCD video camera (1/10,000 sec shutter and up to 500 frames per second) with a storage capacity/RAM of 2200 frames. Additional CCD cameras are also available. Digital processing of the images is performed using the departmental computer services. A Gamma Densitometer is available for void fraction measurements.
