Admissions and Registration

Placement into the Mech 2 program is performed the same as any second year engineering program at UBC. Students in their first year of studies must submit their Program Preference Form (online) by June 15th. Students should be careful to keep their e-mail on the UBC SSC up to date in order to receive notification of their placement.

For some more information about placement into Mech 2, please see our page here.

Registration

Students in Mech 2 must register for their courses by selecting one of four standard timetables (STT). Please note that Mechatronics students do NOT register in a specific STT. Students in Mech 2 do not need to register for any other course other than APSC 201 (see below).

APSC 201

Registering for APSC 201 for Mech 2 students is different than for all other APSC 201 classes. APSC 201 is not included in the Mech 2 STT, however APSC 201 registration is handled specially for Mech 2 students. The registration process is below:

  1. Mech 2 students register in their STT
  2. Students are NOT placed in APSC 201 through that STT. APSC 201 registration for Mech 2 students doesn’t start until Christmas break. Don’t worry – spots are held in special sections for Mech 2 students.
  3. Before September, students need to register in a specific Mech 2 APSC 201 waitlist (MW1).
  4. Engineering Student Services will move Mech 2 students into their APSC 201 sections from the special Mech 2 waitlist, MW1. Students who are not in the waitlist MW1 before then will NOT be registered in APSC 201.
  5. Students must remain in the section of APSC 201 that they are registered in. The schedule on SSC for APSC 201 fits with the Mech 2 schedule and students must work with their Mech 223 groups on their APSC 201 assignments. The final report for Mech 223 is used for the APSC 201 final report
