Visitors

Please note: It is important that all visitors on campus hold an official appointment at UBC when the visit is for an extended time period.

Visiting Faculty – Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor and Lecturer

Visiting Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors and Lecturers are normally from another academic institution and are at UBC while on sabbatical. These visitors’ appointments will normally be made at the rank that they hold in the home institutions or by an appropriate equivalent rank, preceded by the word “visiting”. Appointees must hold continuing appointments or have emeritus status at other universities or institutions to which they expect to return; visiting positions are normally held for a maximum of two years.

Visiting Undergraduate Research Students

Each year, students from other universities or institutes come to the Department of Mechanical Engineering for periods of practical training, typically for 3-6 months. During that time they assist with research projects done by faculty members. The work period typically forms part of the practical training requirements at the student’s home institution.

Visiting Scholar

Visiting Scholars are usually graduate students who require experience at another university prior to completion of their degree or other scholars who are coming to use our libraries and interact with our faculty for their own benefit. The students must currently be registered and in good standing at another recognized university, and coming to UBC for research purposes only.

Exchange Students

The possibility of going on exchange to a foreign country is an exciting one and is one of the many benefits of attending UBC. While the Co-op program coordinates international work terms, it is also possible to go on exchange to another University to study. It’s a great opportunity to see another part of the world, and to take courses that may not be offered at UBC.
