UBC Thunderbots Compete in RoboCup World Championship

The UBC Thunderbots have returned from competing in the RoboCup World Championship in Eindhoven, the Netherlands from June 24th to July 1st, 2013.

RoboCup is a worldwide initiative dedicated to promoting and advancing research in robotics.  This year, Thunderbots sent representative from all three of their divisions to the event — Thunderbots FC competed in the Small-Size League (SSL) Robotic Soccer competition, Thunderbots Simulation competed in the 2D Soccer Simulation League, and Thunderbots@Home attended to share ideas and discuss their current project, a household assistive robot.

This year, Thunderbots FC re-designed many major components of their robots, and fabricated an all-new fleet of 8 robots for competition in Eindhoven, where they came in 9th place overall.  The team also traveled to Mannheim, Germany to participate in a pre-competition workshop hosted by DHBW Mannheim from June 19th to 23rd, where they took 2nd place overall and 1st place in the Technical Challenges.
