Please join us in congratulating the Mechanical Engineering Spring 2016 graduates, who received their degrees on May 31st. The department hosted a reception after the graduation ceremony to recognize some of our outstanding students.

This year’s Letson Prizes, which are given to the Head of the graduating class for each Option, were offered to Silvia Odaya for the general stream of Mechanical Engineering; Alisa Walsh for Biomedical Engineering; Justin Jin Wei Liang for Mechatronics; and Fa-Kai Wang for Thermofluids.

The Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering (CSME) Gold Medal for overall outstanding achievement was awarded to Kurtis Harms.

The APEG Achievement Award, which is given to one graduating student in each Department who shows great promise, went to Katelyn Currie.

Nancy Chu was awarded the 2016 Mechanical Engineering Outstanding Student Leader Award for Undergraduate Students, which recognizes the top undergraduate student who demonstrated strong leadership skills and made outstanding contributions to the department and faculty, specifically in the realms of student affairs, design competition teams, professional association student chapters, and other related activities. This past year, Nancy served as both the Vice President of Club Mech and Captain of the Supermileage student team. Nancy demonstrated exemplary leadership skills in organizing events for students, leading her team through challenging competitions, and making sure the MECH student body was well represented. Throughout her degree, she continually gave her time and effort to contribute to the betterment of the department, the university, and the student engineering community as a whole.
