Letson Prizes
The Letson Prizes are given to the head of the graduating class for each program Option. Our 2021 winners are:
- General Mechanical Engineering: Janelle Lawson
- Biomedical: Yizhe Jiang

- Thermofluids: Gary Guan
Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering Gold Medal
The CSME Gold Medal is awarded to a student for overall outstanding academic achievement in Mechanical Engineering.
2021 recipient: Sebasatiaan Mainardis
Dean’s Achievement Award in Engineering
This award is given to one graduating student in each Department who shows great promise.
2021 recipient: Janelle Lawson
Dale CHERCHAS Memorial Prize
This award is endowed in memory of Dr. Dale Cherchas, a leading researcher in Mechanical Engineering, and recognizes the top student in the area of Controls & Dynamics.
2021 recipient: Gary Guan
Philipp Krebs Award for Perseverance
This award celebrates undergraduate students who have demonstrated great perseverance and determination throughout their degree

Design Awards
Capstone Design Award
This award is given to the best performing team in our 4th year capstone design course. This year, the instructors of MECH 45X have chosen two teams to receive this award – both the “COVID PPE for those with limited ability” & the “Surgical Tool Tracking” teams exemplified stellar performance in innovation and design practice.

David NIKKEL Memorial Prize in Engineering Design
This award is given to one graduating student who has excelled in creative design throughout their 4th year.

Student Leadership Awards
The following students have continually excelled in providing leadership and inspiration to their peers throughout their degree, and are being awarded with a Student Leadership Award for their contribution to the engineering community.

Mechanical Engineering Outstanding Student Leader Award
This award recognizes the top undergraduate student who has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and has made outstanding contributions to the Department and Faculty, specifically in the realms of student affairs, design competition teams, professional association student chapters, and other related activities.

Excellence in Academic Achievement
Undergraduate Degree with Distinction
Degree with Distinction is awarded to students who have achieved an overall first-class average in their second through fourth year courses. We are very proud to have so many undergraduate students recognized for their scholastic excellence.
