Industry
Collaborate with faculty experts and the next generation of engineers.
Industry collaborations are an essential part of our work. They provide our professors and students with challenging projects that are relevant to industry, while also helping our industry partners realize tangible competitive advantages. Together, UBC and our industry partners are able to find solutions to important issues and make a positive impact on industry and society.
Our department has a long and successful history of collaboration with industry, and we always welcome new opportunities to collaborate on challenging projects. We are eager to help our partners become more competitive in their fields, and can provide expertise in a broad range of areas within mechanical engineering: from advanced manufacturing techniques to high efficiency combustion and the many areas in between.
Ways to work with us
Collaborate with research experts
Accelerate your research. Fast-forward your development.
Collaborating with university researchers provides access to world-class expertise and top students. New collaborations can apply for NSERC Engage grants of up to $25,000 – no matching funds required. Further research is eligible for numerous federal and provincial grant programs, leveraging your research dollar.
Work with a student capstone design team
Sponsor a capstone design project for our senior undergraduate students.
Have a team of final-year Mechanical Engineering students, supervised by a dedicated faculty member, spend eight months designing or improving critical mechanical systems in your organization.
Hire a student
Strategically expand your work force.
Find the right person to help on your projects. Train students for your upcoming needs, and contribute to our students’ professional development.
The UBC Co-op Program connects you with talented students looking to gain work experience in industry, and different funding programs are available to help you hire a student.
Join our events
Network and promote your company.
Through seminars, industry nights, workshops and more, UBC offers many opportunities for you to network with faculty, staff, students and alumni.
Be part of our alumni events.
At our alumni networking events, UBC Mechanical Engineering invites our our graduates to gather together and build their industry connections. We often partner with industry for alumni events, either through sponsorship or facility tours. In the past we have toured Seaspan Shipyards, and the Campus Energy Centre among others.
If you are interested in partnering with us for a future Alumni Networking Event, please contact communications@mech.ubc.ca.
