Machine Shop

The department’s Student Machine Shop is a facility open to registered Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing undergraduate students, as well as Mechanical Engineering graduate students, faculty members and staff. During regular on-campus university operations, the shop is open daily with full supervision so students can safely work on their projects. Staff machinists are available to give instruction and guidance to students on the best practices for tool and equipment use, and to give advice on design for student project work.

The facility consists of a 300 m2 space located in Kaiser 1190 which contains conventional milling, drilling, sawing and turning equipment, as well as fabrication equipment such as a press brake, 3D printer and various joining, shaping and cutting tools and equipment. The student machine shop is adjacent to a staff-only machine shop, where our team of staff technicians provide support fabrication and prototyping services in support of research and teaching, which also features several CNC machines.

Maker Space

Across the hallway, our 24/7 access MakerSpace allows MECH and MANU students to use lower-risk equipment without supervision whenever they want for their coursework and personal projects. Equipment here includes an abrasive water-jet cutter, a Print Shop with various types of 3D printers, as well as a range of hand tools.

Find more information about the resources available in our Machine Shops and MakerSpace can on ourTechnical Services website.
