Clean Energy Research Centre

Providing safe, widespread, and equitable access to sustainable energy is one of the key challenges of our time. The Clean Energy Research Centre (CERC) hosts world-leading researchers who see this challenge as an opportunity to help future generations inherit a better world.

As an interdisciplinary program, CERC brings together innovative faculty and students from all over UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan, including the Faculty of Applied Science, the Faculty of Science, and the Sauder School of Business.

Seven of our faculty members belong to CERC’s interdisciplinary program, including Associate Director Dr. Steven Rogak and Associate Director Dr. Patrick Kirchen. Other Mechanical Engineering faculty members at CERC are Dr. Walter Mérida, Dr. Sheldon Green, the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science Dr. James Olson, Dr. Kendal Bushe, and Dr. Naomi Zimmerman. Their research ranges from creating more efficient engines with reduced emissions to building more sustainable ventilation and filtration systems.
