Clean Energy Research Centre
Providing safe, widespread, and equitable access to sustainable energy is one of the key challenges of our time. The Clean Energy Research Centre (CERC) hosts world-leading researchers who see this challenge as an opportunity to help future generations inherit a better world.
An interdisciplinary program, CERC brings together innovative faculty and students from all over UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan, including the Faculty of Applied Science, the Faculty of Science, and the Sauder School of Business.
Six our faculty members belong to CERC’s interdisciplinary program, including the Centre’s Director Walter Mérida and Associate Director Steve Rogak. Other Mechanical Engineering faculty members at CERC are Dr. Sheldon Green, the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science James Olson, Patrick Kirchen, and Kendal Bushe. Their research ranges from creating more efficient engines with reduced emissions to building more sustainable ventilation and filtration systems.
