ASME UBC Student Section Visits Boeing and Mobile Tool Management

On Saturday, February 28, a group of 33 students from Mechanical Engineering participated in a one day trip organized by the ASME Student Section at UBC. First stop, Mobile Tool Management Inc. in Mukilteo, Washington, students had the pleasure of meeting a recent MECH graduate, Eric Pospisil. Eric gave our group a fascinating tour of their facility and oriented us around the products his company designs and manufactures for the aerospace industry. After walking around in the engineering and manufacturing floors, a Q&A session was held with Eric and one of his colleagues. Students had the opportunity to hear about the opportunities, challenges, and employment in aerospace industry.

After a lunch break, the next destination was the Future of Flight Aviation Center. The students toured the exhibitions that ranged from jet engines, aircraft cockpits, materials, simulations, and more. If this was not enough to get a group of young engineers excited, next up was the Boeing Factory Tour! A short bus ride to the neighbouring Boeing’s Everett Factory took the group to world’s largest building by volume – 13.3 million cubic meters! This tour provided a unique access to see and hear about the manufacturing of some of world’s most sophisticated and successful engineering creations, such as Boeing’s iconic 747, 777, and the new 787 Dreamliner. The whole tour was a great success for the organizing team at ASME UBC Student Section, and a lot of fun for everyone who joined – a day well spent.
