Dr. Kendal Bushe elected Fellow of the Combustion Institute

March 19, 2024

Dr. Kendal Bushe named a 2024 Fellow of the Combustion Institute

In recognition of his contributions to the field of combustion research and technology, Associate Professor W. Kendal Bushe has been elected a Fellow of the Combustion Institute. Dr. Bushe is one of nineteen international researchers in the Institute’s 2024 class of Fellows, and is acknowledged for his work on “innovative research on the theory and modeling of premixed, non-premixed, and partially-premixed turbulent flames.”

An international non-profit scientific society founded in 1954, the Combustion Institute is committed to the dissemination of research activities in all areas of combustion science and technology through education, global conferences, scientific journal publications and stipends to support early career researchers. As an international community, the Institute is dedicated to advancing combustion research, which intersects with many other scientific disciplines and affects communities around the world.

Dr. Bushe has been researching turbulent combustion at UBC, developing novel methods for the numerical simulation of turbulent combustion, including a new modelling approach now widely known in the field as the Conditional Source-term Estimation. Additionally, his experimental efforts have led to the commission of two different experimental facilities for the study of the ignitions and combustion of methane and natural gas in engines.
